Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, devoted Islamic State imam, has reportedly survived a U.S.-led attack and proven that the line between blood-lusting despot and sexually repressed punchline is, as ever, a fine one with a new audio sermon exhorting his scruffy man-warriors to "explode the volcanoes of jihad everywhere."

The Associated Press reports:

In a recording released days after he was reported to be wounded in an airstrike, the leader of the Islamic State group said the U.S.-led coalition's campaign had failed and it would eventually have to send ground troops into battle.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi urged his followers to "explode the volcanoes of jihad everywhere," according to the 17-minute message posted online Thursday. The recording appeared authentic, matching previous ones from the group.

The AP goes on to say that the voice in the audio sermon name-checked a couple of recent regional developments that suggest it was recorded after the Saturday attack on an ISIS convoy, in which Baghdadi was believed by some to have been injured.

ISIS members have denied Baghdadi was in that caravan, according to a Daily Mail article that added to the sultry homosocial imagery in the imam's war speech:

"O sons of al-Haramayn [Saudi Arabia]...the serpent's head and the stronghold of the disease are there...draw your swords and divorce life, because there should be no security for the Saloul," he Baghdadi said, using a derogatory term to refer to the leadership of Saudi Arabia...

Baghdadi said he had accepted oaths of allegiance from supporters in Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Algeria, adding: "Oh soldiers of the Islamic State...erupt volcanoes of jihad everywhere. Light the earth with fire against all dictators."

Of course, none of the sexual latency in this kill-talk comes as a surprise to Slavoj Zizek. The erotics of militancy continues apace.
