Dog Comes Home Chewing on a Human Bone
Investigators in Atlanta are trying to determine the identity of a person whose remains were discovered in a neighborhood after a resident's dog came back to his house gnawing on a bone from a human body.
Local CBS affiliate WGCL reports:
Officers responded to a home on Johns Street in the English Avenue neighborhood at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. A man told them his dog showed up chewing on what appeared to be human remains.
An investigator from the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office arrived on the scene and determined that it was a human bone.
Police went out searching for the source of the bone, and eventually they found the remains nearby—with the assistance of their working dogs.
Some clothing was also reportedly found, but so far officials haven't determined the age or gender of the deceased person. They couldn't even confirm where the dog's original bone came from on the deceased's body:
"The medical examiner is saying it looks like from the lower extremity," said Lt. Charles Hampton, the homicide commander of the Atlanta Police Department. "It could be a femur. Could be a tibia. Right now, I'm not sure which one."
