The Department of Justice probably won't pursue any federal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman for his shooting of black teen Trayvon Martin in 2012, according to a new report, so the off-kilter gun enthusiast's recent apocalyptic fantasies may go unfulfilled.

According to the Washington Post, three officials with knowledge of the two-year-long Department of Justice investigation into Zimmerman—who was shooting black Florida teens to death and claiming self-defense before it really became a thing—say they don't anticipate any criminal complaints being filed in the case.

That might help put the Anne Frank-sympathizing Zimmerman and his family at ease since, by his brother's recent admission to GQ, the brood has protected itself by flitting between seedy hotels and Chick-fil-As, armed with disguises and at least 10 guns ("babies," in their code lingo!), and avoiding air travel since "[t]hat would require George to show his ID at the airport, possibly to a black person."

The horror. Because "black persons" are so violent. Like federal civil rights agents:

...in case someone—or multiple someones—decided to mount an attack on the house, the Zimmermans pre-packed their own "go-bags" filled with everything they would need to flee in a rush, as well as what they called "footballs"—like the one President Obama has with the nuclear codes—that contained laptops, cell phones, and other essential electronics.

They also memorized a color-coded threat-ID system. Code blue: Law enforcement at the door. Code brown: Draw your weapons. Code black: Come out guns blazing...

Bob tells me that George's big fear right now is that he'll be charged with federal civil rights violations for the Martin shooting.

"He's worried," Bob says, "that if FBI agents come and kick in his door, he's probably gonna shoot a few of them."

Well, thank goodness it never came to that. Now the Zimmermans can just hang out and not shoot anybody with all the guns they've accumulated.
