Ted Cruz, Princeton '92 and creepy bathrobe enthusiast, is really tired of all these nancyboys who run the military, insisting that there must be political reconciliation and trustbuilding to forge stability in Iraq. Is he gonna have to go over there and bloody up some jihadi ass himself?

Whilst comparing hair-care notes with Sean Hannity last night, the grandstanding GOP senator said today's military is not so much an elite fighting force as a bunch of bleeding heart social workers, Annie Sullivans trying to teach the poor blind Iraqi Hellen Kellers how to get some water out of that goddamn pump. Via the Hill:

Speaking on Fox News's "Hannity," Cruz voiced his frustration with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey's responses at a Senate hearing earlier in the day on the administration's plan to combat ISIS militants.

"When I asked General Dempsey, militarily, how would we go in and kill the terrorists before they're able to take jihad to America, his answer was, 'Well, we need to see political reconciliation,' " Cruz said. "We need to change the conditions on the ground so people are not susceptible to extremism. Look, it's not our job to be social workers in Iraq and put them all on expanded Medicaid. It is our job to kill terrorists who have declared war on America and who have demonstrated the intention and capability to murder innocent Americans."

Hannity added: "And to secure our border."

Cruz added: "Absolutely, to secure our border."

Mind you, in condemning Iraqi reconciliation efforts—such as the push to make sure the Shiite government stops abusing and alienating "Sunni awakening" ex-insurgents who came to the U.S.'s aid during the Iraq war; the drive to make sure anti-ISIS Shiites don't let bloodthirsty Iran-supported militias further erode security; the overall goal of "draining the swamp" of support that keeps violent radicals alive—Cruz isn't just condemning Dempsey or the Obama administration. He's also condemning the work of the previous administration, and of virtually every American service member who served in Iraq from 2006 on, trying to get the country stable enough to, you know, not support deadly terrorists.

After we had destabilized it, mind you. It's good to remember that our acceptance of Manichaean bluster from American leaders about confronting ultimate evil is what gave crazy religious jihadis a foothold in western Iraq in the first place.

But if the Senate's closet Clausewitz thinks U.S. airstrikes and coordinated ground offensives with civil affairs capability just don't kill enough baddies, maybe he could grab a brain bucket and an M4, educate himself on the difference between the law and a LAAW, and volunteer for action.
