So? She's prominent *because* she was selected as a VP candidate.
He just got a bounce because his name ID increased with all of the media talking about him. There is virtually no chance of him getting tapped for VP. He's from a state R's will win anyway, and he would turn off more voters than he could drive to the polls for the ticket. 40% of Republican primary voters have said they won't vote for him, so imagine what that would be for the general electorate. Oh, and he's an asshole.
Yep. His bump in popularity is only due to the fact he's the most high profile person to officially run. Republicans who previously loathed him are now falling all over themselves to defend him. This will certainly change once the field gets larger. It really was a stroke of genius on his part to declare so early. It won't result in him being any more electable, but it has resulted in a lot more people taking him seriously.
